Cheers to the New Year

New Years Eve!
Quite exciting actually. An excuse to stay up a ridiculous hour, wear killer heels and a smashing outfit. To put it simply: party like it's 1999 (in this case 2011). But it's the only time of the year where we can really look forward to new beginnings; the start of a new year! Out with the old and in with the new.
For me 2011 has been very inspirational. With that thought in mind I predict 2012 will see those inspirations become a reality; decisions made; changes embraced.

In the spirit of New Years here are my top 5 New Years Resolutions.
  1. Explore
  2. Less Profanity
  3. Make A Difference
  4. Be Adventurous
  5. Be Open
What will 2012 hold for you? Only time will tell. One thing I do know: I won't let fear dictate my choices. Will you?

5...4...3...2...1... HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!

Inspirational Christmas

It's Christmas Eve and I've found a few minutes to escape to the computer to do a quick post while the ham is still in the oven. The aroma is breath taking. I can't wait to eat it all up!

I just want to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season - however you choose to spend it. It's been a crazy year; with a lot of highs and lows. If I could describe this year in one word it would be:
INSPIRED
I hope you have also been inspired this year. Inspired to reach for your dreams. Inspired to overcome adversity. Inspired to take risks. Inspired to make a difference, to matter. Whatever it may be I hope you find or have found your pot of gold at the end of that beautiful rainbow.

To my readers, thank you for taking the time to read my little blog. Your comments have been so uplifting.
To my family and friends, thank you for just being you!

Much love lovelies :)

Dear Santa: I wish for - YSL

I think I've been really good this year! Don't you agree?

Online shopping is both convenient and cheeky. Convenient because you can window shop in your pjs. Cheeky because this little fairy named temptation is softly whispering into my ear "you know you want it" and "hey it's Christmas you deserve a little something something for yourself". Or maybe the true evil is the allure of the credit card. Either way there are just so many precious pieces around the world that deserve a home. For me, right now, it is YSL's Arty Gold-Plated Glass Ring. Now these have been around for months. You've probably seen them on many blog sites, magazines etc but I finally found the gem stone centre piece that sends chills down my spine. This one is available on Net-A-Porter.com.
What do you think? Should I get it?

I Crave The Sun!

The great thing...nay...the best thing about Summer is the fact that you can spend a whole day at the beach or laze around the pool. But alas the sun seems a bit shy lately; hiding behind grey depressing clouds. Come out come out where ever you are! My pretty new swimsuit from Zimmermann needs to get a good dose of vitamin D!

Here are a few more of my favourites from the label's swimwear collection. They are absolutely adorable. There's a touch of old world glamour to the cut of this summer's collection (especially the onesies). The ladies on the beach have returned and are here to stay!

Byron Bay

Have you ever come across a place that just takes all your stresses and concerns away?
I've found that very place in Byron Bay; just 2 hours south from Brisbane.
I'm a proud Queenslander but there's something about Byron Bay NSW that feels like home!

Hair Bunnies

I love finding new things.

Last weekend I was playing host to a few friends I met on my European Tour in June/July of this year (it's amazing how quick strangers become close friends). Anyways to show off my neighbourhood I took them to a few of my favourite places here in Brisbane. In particular the West End Markets. There's so much to see and find here but I particularly fell in love with one stall - Bunny Hornet. They make vintage styled accessories that brighten up your day. Who knew bobby pins could be whimsical yet versatile, but I couldn't say no to a cute little head piece (my collection of headbands is growing quite rapidly now). The detail was amazing - brass filigree base with a rich rose centre.

If you can't make the West End Markets in Brisbane (every Saturday morning) to check out the stall personally you can easily head over to their online store on Etsy.
I'll be back again soon to choose some boppy pins. Will you?

how cute is their business card!

Girls on Film

Totally jumped for joy when I saw this. Duran Duran is back!
In a once in a life time moment, Harper's Bazaar UK has brought together the Supers (Cindy, Helena, Naomi, Yasmin, Eva) to star in the new Duran Duran short film; which happened to be directed by Jonas Akerlund.

Anne Geddes Baby

My mother called me up today to ask if I had watched the new Anne Geddes TV show yesterday. The timing of her call would have been more appropriate yesterday seeing as I was home. She usually does but it must have slipped her mind. Thankfully we live in such a digital world that I was able to find some footage of the show.

Now I love the relationship I have with my mother – she’ll always put her two cents in, but she also remembers details and interests in my life that when she stumbles across something she’ll make sure that I’m fully aware of it; the beauty of a simple telephone call. And that’s the subject of today’s post – Anne Geddes. Remembering way back from my childhood (that I have since forgotten) was my love for Anne Geddes’ work; in particularly her 1996 calendar “Down in the Garden” which was also a coffee table book. My mother had purchased that calendar for me while she was in the newsagency to buy the day’s newspaper. I might have begged and pleaded that she buy it for me (I was 10) and thankfully she did thinking that I would hang it up in my room (with my My Little Pony bedspread). But alas I took hand of some scissors and cut it all up so that I could cover my school books with them. Recalling that childhood memory suddenly dawned on me that my interest and appreciation in beautiful photography (and art in general) had spanned for much longer than I had originally thought.

Can you remember the moment in your life that first inspired you?

Anne Geddes' Recent projects:
  • Merino Wool Campaign with The Woolmark Company
  • Launch of her Australian Magazine "my Pregnancy: A Woman's Story". The magazine can also be viewed in digital form. Interviews of some of the women featured have also been documented as a TV series aired on Channel 7TWO on Saturday 4:30PM (AEST)
  • Launch of her new coffee-table book "Beginnings" (also available in digital form via Kindle and iBooks). A 56 minute documentary to coincide with this project was produced and can be downloaded from iTunes. Definitely worth watching!

Pretty Phalanges

What better way to express yourself than to paint your nails!
I recently bought (well it was free using my David Jones AMEX rewards card) a bottle of OPI nail polish in a reddish-coral colour. It's really hard to explain as I noticed it changes a few shades depending on the light (how subtle). Now you really can't buy much out of a $20 gift card so I've decided to use those freebies to start investing in nail polish! A 15ml bottle only costs $19.95. Sounds logical no?!

I'm loving the brights at the moment. Well it is Spring after all! Which colour will you be wearing?
This is the colour I bought over the weekend. You like?
In the not so distant future these too will be mine!!

Henri Cartier-Bresson

The Man, The Image, & The World

With my new found love for photography my recently married friend Jenny called me up to check out this new exhibit at the Queensland Art Gallery (Southbank). It was for Henri Cartier-Bresson - one of the original masters of street photography and modern photo journalism. The exhibition is running until the 27th November 2011 so check it out before it ends. His work is simply breath taking. It certainly fuels my passion to continue travelling in the near future and capturing those moments in life that we take for granted.

The world is so big and unknown; she's patiently waiting for us to discover her hidden secrets in the most obscure parts of the world. All you need is courage, an open mind, and a camera.

McQueen

Sarah Burton what can I say. Lee Alexander McQueen would be proud; very proud.
Here are my favourite pieces from the fashion house presented at Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011-12 show. I'll let the pictures do the talking. But know this, the Alexander McQueen woman is super fierce.
